The 59FIFTY has become one of New Era’s most recognizable designs. We partnered up with the cap maker for an exclusive Seattle Mariners cap, only available at solebox.
The cap features the classic 59FIFTY design with a flat visor and a high crown, pairing sail tones with dark green. While the front sports a prominent ‘S’ – referencing the city of Seattle – the right side has a stitched logo celebrating the team’s 30th anniversary in the league.
When the 59FIFTY first hit the baseball field in Cleveland in 1954, no one could have predicted its future as a streetwear icon. After it became available to the public in the mid-80s, it was first popularized by Tom Selleck wearing a Detroit Tigers cap in the TV show Magnum P.I.
However, the first real craze kicked off when Spike Lee wore a custom red New York Yankees cap to game three of the MLB World Series in 1996. Soon more and more custom requests started pouring in, turning the 59FIFTY into a global phenomenon.
