The adidas NMD S1 – A Pinnacle of Progression

10. August 2022

Fashion is a constantly evolving field. We see new and emerging creatives breaking through their boundaries, challenging the conventions and ideologies of the pioneers before them. This creates a new connection between forward-thinking innovations and the garments we wear every day. From more sustainable and responsible manufacturing to textiles that enable greater functionality, designers are pushing the boundaries of creativity more than ever. Together with adidas, we are utilizing this next-generation power for the release of the NMD S1.

With the NMD S1 launching on August 12th, adidas and solebox aim to harness the power of cultural creators and define a new narrative between brands and emerging designers. With a partnership between @robboyd_ and @_jeongli, two paragons of progressive design, the release is a marriage of cultures and creatives who both exist in the same universe and are connected to the same design aspirations. Both designers each created 2 individual outfits that can be combined with the shoes.

Rob Boyd’s first installment consists of his signature patterns and visible seams that combine a technical look with casual everyday wear. He shows an innovative and technical approach while being extremely wearable. His second iteration is a much more casual and cosy tracksuit that is still well made and highly functional. An all grey cotton tracksuit with mesh ventilation for breathability and toggle switches to tighten or loosen certain parts is a dynamic take on the traditional cotton tracksuit. Roadman meets the future.

Jeongli’s additions reflect an ultra-technical interpretation of a tracksuit, using several different fabrics and unique patterns to create a neo-future aesthetic. Sleek, contemporary and understated, but effective. The tracksuit serves as everyday armour for any weather condition. Whilst on the other hand, his next rendition is as if an 80s tracksuit was to be fused with a tracksuit from 3022. Muted greys and blacks dress the tracksuit, and unique drawstrings and clips add the functionality desired by the next generation of tastemakers.

All four outfits and the upcoming shoes will be on display in a gallery-style exhibition from August 12th at 11AM in Berlin.
