adidas Originals continues to expand its ‚A-ZX‘ series with its latest sneaker, the ZX 6000 ‚XZ‘ (Inside Out). Standing in the ‚X‘ in the ongoing series, this silhouette features a unique exterior treatment that sees interior components placed on the outside, and exterior elements reworked to look inversed. In our laboratory in the Amsterdam solebox store we took a closer look at the model, disassembled it and looked inside.

The ZX 6000 originally debuted in 1989 alongside the game-changing Torsion bar. The latest special-edition look for the 6000 complete flips the upper of the shoe inside out, exposing the various layers of padding and stitching you can’t see from the exterior. The result is an extremely interesting, hap-hazard-looking shoe, most likely to be appreciated by sneaker design aficionados and those curious about what certain parts of their shoes are designed to do.
The clear brown/chalk white sneaker sports a whole host of different materials throughout its design – ranging from smooth suede to roughly-cut sponge, transparent overlays, rubber, and more. You’ll find a transparent overlay lined with sponge edges starting at the toe, meant to represent the interior liner, the toe box gets decorated by a print of the outsole’s pattern — which also finds itself on the insole.
Transparent overlays sit on top a raw mid-section that displays the shoe’s signature Three Stripes, while more of the clear plastic can be seen housing the eyelets. For the collar and the tongue a plastically gray-toned rubber has then been used, where on the latter you’ll spot a fuzzy inside out adidas Trefoil logo.
The interior of the shoe’s heel now finds itself placed on the exterior of the ZX 6000. The model gets completed with hole punches, zig-zag stitching and a raw sponge edge, accompanied by a dark ZX heel cage, and sits on top of a sand-colored Torsion-equipped midsole.
