Nike Women’s Air Jordan 6 ‚Smoke Grey‘ with Moneyama

22. September 2020

Jordan Brand will launch their latest womens-exclusive Air Jordan 6 ‘Smoke Grey‘ on September 24th. For this launch we met up with DJane Moneyama, a true Berliner and female BPOC artist. We had a conversation about herself, her career and connection to Jordan Brand.

Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Mariama, also known as Moneyama. I am a real Berliner, grew up in Kreuzberg and Spandau – but my background is Ghanaian. Currently I’m studying culture science at the Europa University Viadrina and I am a DJane.

How and when did you start with DJing?
I started my journey almost 4 years ago on New Years Eve 2016 at St. George, an underground club in Berlin. My friends from Berlin-based DJ-collective Bass Gang put me on. We were hanging at home sometimes, playing music and just thought about what it would be like to do it professionally. One day a friend of mine convinced me to take it serious. I got DJ bookings and became a DJ at St. George after my first Gig.

Where do you see yourself as an female BPOC artist within the German DJ/music industry?
I’m happy to see how the German DJ scene is evolving and especially when I see other female DJs doing well – but I don’t really see myself in the German scene. I talk to friends about that a lot. A couple of months ago I wanted to start my own party, which should have happened two weeks before the lockdown – I’m still hoping to put it back on when times are getting better. I’m seeing myself playing more overseas, for example in London and Paris. Being an example for all black girls in Germany is what I’m trying. Representation is really important, they should have the chance to reflect themselves in me.

How are you connected with Jordan Brand and what do you like especially about the new AJ6 Smoke Grey?
As as teen I started my first job to buy myself my first pair of Air Jordans. I went to the Nike store at Ku’damm to queue and ended up with the Air Jordan 3. I used to be a sneaker head that’s why I already own a couple of Jordan models. I like the colorway and the comfort of the AJ6. Back then, most shoes used to be available for men only so I am very pleased that this is now changing more and more.

The WMNS Air Jordan 6 ‚Smoke Grey‘ will be available from September 24th in size 6.5 – 12 for 190 € online and instore at all solebox locations.
