When one thinks of New Balance, the color grey immediately comes to mind. This year, the brand marks its annual Grey Day celebrations with three releases, reinterpreting its neutral color palette.
When New Balance released the original 990 in 1982, the running shoe was designed for the city. The subtle grey colorway, chosen to show less dirt, gave the performance silhouette a timeless lifestyle appeal, which has since become a signature of its 99x series.
With all pairs made in USA, the 99x series is New Balance’s flagship for technological innovation and craftsmanship. The neutral color palette perfectly matches the brand’s modest and no-frills approach to shoe design, letting the performance and technology do all the talking.
The Grey Day releases are led by the 9060, which combines design elements from the most iconic models of the 99x series. Joined by the chunky trail design of the 580 and the 550 retro basketball silhouette, the Grey Day lineup reinterprets New Balance’s classic color palette.
