We recently teamed up with Tokyo-based online magazine @sabukaru.online together with New Balance to create an editorial for the upcoming New Balance 2002R Protection Pack. New Balance brought back the 2002 silhouette in 2020, with an R added to the end. The 2002 originally was released in 2010, as a flagship Made in U.S.A. model created by „SUPER TEAM 33“, a group of 33 elite New Balance members.
Thanks to numerous collaborations and releases in the past year, the 2002R has gained a great following and without a doubt is one of New Balance’s most sought-after models today. The 2002R Protection Pack might be one of the most unique iterations of the shoe yet.
Presented in 3 colorways, „Rain cloud“, „Phantom“, and „Sea Salt“, the Protection Pack deconstructs & reconstructs the classic 2010 silhouette. With pre-distressed soles [taken from the M860 v2], textured, an exposed foam tongue, and raw-edged suede panels cut and layered in a distinctive fashion, the shoes look as if they were made to quite literally protect your feet. The grey-scale colors and deconstructed take on the shoes make them a perfect weapon of choice when stepping out to the streets of Tokyo.
Anybody in the streets of Tokyo will find themselves strolling through a maze of concrete structures, surrounded by swarms of people, kinetically in sync like a school of fish. Each shoe in the Protection Pack will be sure to make you stand out from those around you while blending in with the architecture and atmosphere of the city. Whether it be day or night, rain or shine, the 2002R Protection Pack will allow you to maintain your stealthy status and be visually loud at the same time.
The New Balance 2002R Protection Pack will be dropping soon at solebox. Be sure to check them out before it’s too late.
